Critical access hospital (CAH) method II professional reassignment deadline is January 1

CAHs using method II may bill for professional services only when physicians or practitioners reassign their benefits to the CAH.

Reason codes 31006 and 31007 are temporarily deactivated to give providers time to submit all method II reassignments to their Part A CAHs by January 1, 2026.

Starting January 2, 2026, method II CAH claims for professional services will return to provider (RTP) if a reassignment isn’t in PECOS.
