Telemedicine refers to the exchange of medical information from one site to another through electronic communication. An organization that plans to enroll to furnish services via telemedicine must enroll in the state the organization is located. Additionally, a physician or non-physician practitioner who enrolls to furnish services via telemedicine must enroll and be licensed in the state the physician/practitioner is located.
- For example: A organization is located in Florida and performing services via telemedicine for Medicare beneficiaries in Alabama. The organization would need to be enrolled in Florida to bill for these services.
