MCD (Medicare Coverage Database) quick reference guide
While First Coast provides an interactive LCD index tool to quickly locate LCDs, further research using the MCD is sometimes needed.
The following reference guide should be used to assist you in finding LCDs/NCDs (Local Coverage Database/National Coverage Database) and related coverage details online using the CMS MCD.
To use this guide, find your scenario in the first column and use the supporting details in the next two columns to lead you to the appropriate online location.

| Have an LCD ID (L number), title, keyword or CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10 code |
Perform a search by using keyword(s) (procedure name or codes) or CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10 to search within the title or entire document. |
MCD search |
The quick search option is a simple option to search for an LCD or NCD. Step 1: Enter the search term (i.e. a procedure code) As you enter terms, a hint list will display potential matches to select from. If any of these initial results match your criteria, click the term on the list. If not, continue to step 2 and 3. Step 2: To search the entire database, continue with your initial keyword(s) and select ‘Filter by state’ to streamline your results. Step 3: Click the green search button. |
